APURBA MUKHERJEE
Patron

Apurba Mukherjee is one person who was associated with cultural activities in Delhi since mid seventies alongwith Sanjoy Sarkar (Babla) who has always been like a very close family member living within walking distance in South Extension.

An alumni of Jadavpur University and a post graduate from Leeds University, Apurbada has had a successful professional career. His love for culture and music was almost naturally instilled as he grew up in a large family of luminaries in the field of education and literature. Music was also an integral part in the household at 28n Pratapaditya Road, where famous artistes visited and performed due to their attachment to Apurbada’s elder brother Sri Asutosh Mukherjee.

Apurbada’s association with Ashis Mukherjee commenced almost immediately after Asishda’s shifting to Sanjoy’s place in South Extension. Along with Asishda and Sanjoy he was a key person in the formation of Uttarayan of which he was a spontaneous choice for the post of Gene5ral Secretary. He continued in this position for almost a decade during which period innumerable cultural peogrammes were staged including “Balmiki Pratibha” at Siri Fort Auditorium. The huge auditorium of nearly 2500 capacity was found to be inadequate because of the overwhelming response from all over Delhi and NCR. Uttarayan gained fame and popularity as a highly respected cultural platform during Apurbada’s tenure as General Secretary.
