SUDHANSHU CHAKRABORTY
President
Some people stand out and get recognition because of their professional acquisition in fields-specific. Still, if we care to accept, there are many others who just stand on the periphery, and still create history. And it is in this vein that our current President, Prof. S S Chakraborty, can be well-described.
Though he received the highest award from national and international organizations for his profession, yet, the intensity with which he observed things over the years and decades, he found his comfort zone in Rabindra Culture in all its hues and colors.
And then his linkage to achievers in the family made him all the more inclined towards the softer side of human sensibilities. His father-in-law, Shri Pramathanath Bishi, was a direct disciple of Rabindranath. Since his childhood days at Shanti Niketan as an endeared disciple there, and literally under the shadow of Gurudev, he played a significant role in his transformation – he wrote a number of books centered around the philosophy Tagore stood for. And so was his daughter, Prof. Dr. Chirasree Chakraborty- she did her D.Litt thesis on prose style of Tagore. So being in such an impacting environment, inspiration was a perpetual and natural process from Prof. Chakraborty.
Influence was rewarding in many ways. Rabindra Sangeet is now deeply rooted at the core of his heart, and he enjoys it thoroughly. Whereas he attributes his holding a position in Uttarayan to be just incidental, he sincerely acknowledges the feelings and the wishes of many in the fraternity.
But yes, there is a deep sense of pride he feels in being associated with an organization which once had his long-time close associate and guide, Shri Ashish Mukherjee. And now, supported by his proven administrative and organizational experience, Prof. Chakraborty, would love to and work for faster transformation of this great institution. While expanding the cultural base of West Bengal in this part of the country, efforts would predominantly focus on multi-faceted development of socio cultural heritage of Bengal in all its shades. Focus would be on expanding the cultural base of the organization. Prof. Chakraborty stands committed to the cause of this great institution and looks forward to the support of every one for impacting results.
